MetroPCS founded the Community Scholars Program to recognize senior high school students’ community involvement and to encourage their continued dedication to volunteer activities. The program provides college scholarships to high school seniors who value volunteerism, have made a difference in their hometowns and excel academically. Education, volunteerism and community involvement are all part of MetroPCS’ corporate foundation.
MetroPCS and Kyocera Communications, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of wireless phones and devices, are awarding $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to continue education in college or university programs. In evaluating applications, our overarching criteria will be students who have demonstrated exceptional involvement in volunteerism and community service, in addition to academics and other criteria. Scholarships are offered for a full-time study at an accredited two or four year institution of the student’s choice. In addition, we will be awarding a $25,000 national scholarship to one lucky winner. All winners of the $2,500 scholarships will be eligible to receive the MetroPCS national scholarship.
The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a national nonprofit educational support organization that seeks to involve the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement. The following will be taken into account when selecting winners:
Community service and involvement, Participation in school activities, Academic record (applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a standard 4.0 grading scale to be considered), Additional Honors, Work experience, Statement of goals and aspirations, Unusual personal or family circumstances and  An outside appraisal via a letter of recommendation
Finalists will be notified by mail by January 29, 2010. Due to the number of applications received, MetroPCS will only be able to notify students who are named as finalists. Award recipients will be notified in the spring. Award recipients will be notified by mail by March 26, 2010. If selected as a recipient, 83 students will each receive a $2,500 scholarship award. The $25,000 grand prize scholarship award winner will be selected from the 83 recipient winners. Additionally, each of the 83 winners will receive a Kyocera phone with one year of free service.
Applicants to the MetroPCS Community Scholars Program, sponsored by Kyocera, must be high-school seniors attending a public or private high school in one of the following counties: Boston region-Bristol, Essex, Hillsborough, Kent, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, Worcester - and may not be related to any MetroPCS or Kyocera employee.  DEADLINE DATE:  Deadline has passed       For more information 232009_20127_1.png

DECA Scholarship Program - 2009-2010
DECA Program provides over $300,000 in scholarships at the International Career Development Conference each year. More than 50 corporations, provide scholarships through the DECA Scholarship Program. DECA Inc. administers the program based on guidelines set by each donor. DECA scholarships are strictly merit based. Applications are now available online at www.deca.org/schol.html.

                                    Reading Community Singers
(RCS) originally known as the "Choral Class," was established by the Reading Women's Club in October 1919. The "Choral Class" appeared in its first concert on March 2, 1920, with a performance of the Cantata, "A Legend of Granada," under the direction of Katherine Crockett McDavitt. The chorus was assisted by a baritone soloist and an orchestra.


                                                               Our Mission
To study the art of choral music and share the joy of singing with each other and members of the community. To provide an annual scholarships to a student who is pursuing a college degree with a major/minor in music.

Believe and Achieve Scholarship Program
Corporate Giving ProgramCumberland Farms~(Canton, MA) announced the application period for the third year of its Believe and Achieve Scholarship~is now open. The program provides individual $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors bound for college. ~
The Believe and Achieve Scholarship program is open to students who live within 30 miles of any Cumberland Farms outlet. The scholarship program is also open to children of Cumberland Farms employees. While the initiative takes academic performance into account, the award also considers the student’s financial need. Applications can be submitted online through www.CumberlandFarms.com.
Attending college is a significant financial weight on any family and that’s why we are so proud our Believe and Achieve program can help ease this burden, says Cumberland Farms CEO, Lily Bentas. Maine has so many bright, motivated young people that deserve some assistance in the high cost of paying for books or tuition.~

“MASC PAST PRESIDENTS SCHOLARSHIP”

Information for 2010 Award
MASC has established a scholarship funded by and honoring the Association’s Past Presidents to recognize a student who demonstrates outstanding scholarship, service to the school district, community or public at large, or distinguished achievement. Eligible candidates must be public high school seniors in a municipal or regional school district that is a member of MASC and a relative of a current or former school committee member. The scholarship winner will be selected by a panel of MASC Past Presidents. Criteria have been established broadly to recognize and encourage a wide range of applicant interest.

                                              CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
The Past Presidents may consider any of the following criteria in considering
applicants or nominees:

Outstanding Scholarship
Service to the School District, Community or the Public at Large
Distinguished Achievement in any Field.
Relationship to the current or former MASC member.

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the 41st  ANNUAL NATIONAL WASHINGTON CROSSING FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS for STUDENTS COMPLETING TWELFTH (or final high school year) in 2010 that are planning careers in government service.They invite you to explore their website www.gwcf.org, which contains all of the information candidates should require to prepare and submit an application. Each interested student is invited to write a one-page essay stating why he or she plans a career in government service including any inspiration to be derived from the leadership of George Washington in his famous crossing of the Delaware. The student must confine the essay to viewpoint, attitude and purpose in choice of career.

The Create-A-Holiday Card Scholarship Contest is a chance for us to give back. Walmart Foundation Scholarship
At the Walmart Foundation, we believe that a good education creates opportunities that lead to a better life. To help offset rising college tuition costs, we recently awarded more than $8 million in academic scholarships to help students afford higher education in the 2009-2010 school year.This scholarship is especially important in a year when every dollar counts. According to the National Association of College and University Business Officers, U.S. colleges expect 20 percent more requests for financial aid, while funding for such assistance has fallen due to shrinking endowments and state budget cutbacks.
                                                                    The Sam Walton Community Scholarship
A $3,000 college scholarship available to graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a demonstrated financial need.

                                                                                       Eligibility
                                                              Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States, cannot be a Walmart Stores, Inc. Associate; the dependent of a Walmart Stores, Inc. Associate; or the dependent of a Walmart Stores, Inc. Board of Directors member as of March 29, 2010. (They have a separate scholarship.). Student  must be a high school senior graduating between August 1, 2009 and July 31, 2010. Home school diplomas and GED equivalency certificates are eligible with the same completion date requirement, must have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point unweighted scale, and have taken either the ACT or SAT test, must plan to enroll for fall 2010 as a freshman at a two-year or four-year college or university that is located in the U.S. and is accredited and listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education. Military academies are not approved institutions and must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with required documents. (Note: Students with other funds that pay entirely for tuition, books, fees, and on-campus room and board are ineligible.)

THE HENRY DAVID THOREAU SCHOLARSHIP
1052009_13407_0.pngThe Henry David Thoreau Foundation attracts and sustains outstanding young leaders in diverse disciplines who will safeguard the environmental welfare of future generations. Candidates for the Henry David Thoreau Scholarship must be residents of Massachusetts. The candidates must also be enrolled in and graduate from a placeStateMassachusetts high school in the year they apply for a scholarship and begin college studies. Students with strong academic qualifications and a commitment to the environmental field may apply for an undergraduate scholarship totaling up to $20,000 to the student's accredited institution of choice.
After enrolling and choosing any major, they are required to carry 25 percent of their undergraduate course work in subjects related to the environment. To maintain scholarship assistance, Scholars are required to submit an annual report of their activities in the environmental field, including academic courses. Scholars must provide an official copy of their transcript at the end of each marking period and maintain more than a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to remain eligible for scholarship support.
In addition, Henry David Thoreau Scholars are strongly encouraged to secure and complete an internship in the environmental field, which commonly occurs between their junior and senior year. Upon approval by the Selection Committee, students receive an internship stipend. You must submit your application online from their website. (www.thoreauscholar.org for more information)

Massachusetts Elks Scholarship - Fund Major Project - 2010

Mass. Elks Association fosters and carries on the philanthropic work of assisting worthy young men and women. This program offers grants to students demonstrating financial need, scholarship aptitude and good citizenship. Grants may be renewed yearly, based on continued demonstration of financial need and academic achievement.
The Director will consider the following criteria:
Academic standing, Character references and evidence of leadership and citizenship and demonstrated family financial need
Massachusetts Elks Scholarship Fund issues Scholarship grants to student applicant.

The BURGER KINGtrademarkScholars Program focuses on providing scholarship awards to assist students who excel academically while also working part-time and being actively involved in their community. To date, more than $12.7 million in scholarships have been awarded to high school seniors in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. 

Every year, the BURGER KINGtrademarkScholars Program helps graduating high school seniors build brighter futures. The awards ($1,000 each) are sponsored annually by the fundraising efforts of Burger King Corporation, BURGER KINGtrademarkfranchisees and our restaurant guests in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. 

All BURGER KINGtrademarkScholars awards must be used for educational expenses, such as tuition or required fees and books, and must be used during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Awards are given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability or national origin. Administrative support for the BURGER KINGtrademarkScholars Program is provided by ISTS, Inc.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Online ApplicationKFC Colonel's Scholars Program
Colonel Harland Sanders has become a symbol of entrepreneurial spirit. In keeping with the Charity's commitment to young people and family values, the KFC Colonel's Scholars program will honor more than 50 graduating seniors who share that spirit and need help affording college. Awards are up to $5,000 per year. Criteria for Application: Graduating from high school this academic year, enrolling in a public (state-funded) college or university within your state of legal residence, earning a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75, pursuing a bachelor's degree, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and demonstrate financial need.

Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! College Scholarship recognizes a high school senior (class of 2010) who understands and values the limitless possibilities that education can offer with a scholarship award.

ESSAY QUESTION: Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! delivers an important message about the chances and the troubles that life presents. Thinking about this book and what kinds of opportunities and challenges do you think your education will present in the future?

EIGHTH ANNUAL NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The National Commission for Cooperative Education, on behalf of the eight NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities, is pleased to announce and sponsor its Eighth Annual National Co-op Scholarship Program. As the largest independently sponsored merit co-op scholarship program in the placecountry-regionUnited States, the National Commission will award 170 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each, for a total renewable value of $4,200,000. These merit co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and transfer students who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of our Partner Colleges and Universities listed.  (You must apply and be admitted to one of the colleges listed: Drexel University, Kettering University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Johnson & Wales University to be eligible for this scholarship)

Here’s your chance for fame and fortune AND a chance to have a positive impact in your community. **Keep Sound Minds is looking for someone to produce a public service announcement to raise public awareness about mental illness with a focus on removing the stigma that is often associated with those who suffer from mental illness. You can log on to www.KeepSoundMinds.org for more information or questions.

Keep Sound Minds is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness.  They will be giving out $10,000's in scholarships. The organization was founded after a tragedy took the lives of Kaleigh and Shane Lambert and Marci Thibault as a result of a misunderstood mental illness.  Prizes are awarded for the winning entries:

**2010 Vietnamese American Dreams Scholarship**

Applicants will be judged according to their merits in academics, community involvement, leadership, and character. We strongly encourage ALL eligible Vietnamese American youths to apply. Please note that the winner(s) will be required to provide proof of enrollment at their selected colleges and are encouraged to participate in their college VSA, IVSA, and/or the Vietnamese Community of Massachusetts upon receiving the Vietnamese American Dreams Scholarship.
To be eligible-any high school senior in New England who is of Vietnamese descent and currently applying to college. A minimum of one scholarship amounting $1,000 will be awarded. Additional awards may be granted according to funds.

NOTE: Go to www.pflag.org  and click on “Education & Programs” to submit your application and essay online. You will be assigned a reference number; this number needs to appear on the cover of your packet containing the reference, transcripts and release form that you send to PFLAG National.

                  (Specific for Military families)
This program was established 28 years ago to support military dependents. These are merit based scholarships awarded to high schools seniors who hold a valid military ID card and are a dependent of military members in any branch of service - active, retired or deceased. In 2009 they were able to award over $40,000 in increments of $1500 to $500. These merit-based scholarships are based on personal responsibility, leadership, citizenship, diversity of interests and academic achievement. The deadline for this application is March 15, 2010.

THE REBEKAH ASSEMBLY OF MASSACHUSETTS – This $500 scholarship program is open to seniors applying to 2 or 4 year colleges. Financial need is a consideration.

Presented by Hood Milk, rewards high school student athletes with $5,000 towards furthering their education at a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university. For more than 160 years, Hood has been committed to supporting families and communities across New England. Hood is proud to be able to give 18 student athletes each a $5,000 college scholarship. To be eligible, high school seniors must have proven their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning while participating in a varsity level sport. These students must have also earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community. Applicants will be asked to write an essay explaining why they are a good sport on and off the field.
 
Each student who meets these standards and completes the essay will then be voted on by the community in an online competition. We encourage schools, students, and members of the community to visit Hood.com between March 29th and April 30th to vote for their “Good Sport.”  The top 15 applicants from each New England state who have received the most votes will be interviewed by an independent panel of judges. 
 
The panel of judges will then select three students from each of the six New England States (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) for a total of 18 scholarships. Winners will be honored by a Red Sox player at an awards ceremony and entered into the Hood Good Sport Hall of Fame. Voting begins March 29th on Hood.com and ends at 3pm on April 30th, 2010. The scholarship fund was established in memory of Saugus resident Beverly LeBlanc who demonstrated a personal commitment to protecting the environment through every day actions.~ The scholarship is administered jointly by the family of Beverly LeBlanc and the Saugus River Watershed Council.

Combined Jewish Philanthropies awards grants and interest free loans to students who reside in the Greater Boston CJP service area.
Awards. . .Committee awards generally range between $1000 and $4000. Individuals are considered on the basis of economic need and are expected to have exhausted all available resources including college financial aid awards as well as federal, state and other private funds. Jewish Vocational Service staff screens prospective applicants.
Who. . . Undergraduates attending two- or four-year accredited institutions are eligible to apply. Under certain circumstances students studying in Israel may be eligible. Jewish undergraduates receive preference. (Student visas are not acceptable.)

The Bayliss Foundation has been distributing scholarships to outstanding broadcast students for over 23 years. Each award is in the amount of $5,000. The number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the size of the endowment. In 2005, the Bayliss Foundation began a partnership with top communications schools nationwide in an effort to bring a strong radio presence to college campuses.

Juniors and seniors majoring in Broadcast Communications who have maintained a 3.0 GPA or better are encouraged to apply. Although financial need is a consideration, students of merit with an extensive history of radio-related activities are given preference. Applicants must provide an official transcript, a resume, three letters of recommendation evaluating their scholastic and personal strengths and a descriptive essay outlining his or her future broadcasting goals. 392009_84738_0.jpgCHARLES ELIOT II SCHOLARSHIP-The Metropolitan Area Planning Council has established a scholarship award in memory of Charles W. Eliot, II. Mr. Eliot was an advocate of regional cooperation and especially interested in land use planning as it affected open space protection, land management, and other ecological issues. This scholarship is open to any senior in a secondary school in the 101 city-and-town MAPC region, who is planning to further his/her education in these fields, which were of significant value to Mr. Eliot. A cash prize of at least $500 will be awarded in the form of a scholarship to the school of the recipient's choice. Deadline for this scholarship has passed.

412009_111528_0.pngSCHERING-PLOUGH OFFERS "WILL TO WIN" ASTHMA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - All high school seniors with asthma who will graduate in 2009; have achieved a level of excellence in one of the following: performing arts, community service, athletics, visual arts or science; and will be attending college in fall 2009 are eligible.

An individual applicant may only apply in one of the five categories listed below.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
·       Demonstrate outstanding performance in one of the above categories
·       Document a track record of achievements relevant to entry category
·       Hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
·       Have received at least one award related to their entry category

In addition, all scholarship recipients will be required to supply documentation of the following:
·       US citizenship
·       Accepted to an accredited placecountry-regionUS college
·       Enrolled in college in the fall 2009 semester

Please see the terms and conditions of the program, which are set forth on our Web site. Each scholarship is a one-time grant. All scholarships will be distributed directly to the student's college, and must be used for undergraduate studies. Recipients will be required to provide their Social Security number for distribution of payment. If a recipient is unable to use the entire scholarship for any reason, all remaining money will be donated to the high school the student attended to help another student with asthma. 4172009_24311_0.jpgGIRL SCOUT OF EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS - Any girl who has been registered in Stoneham Girl Scouts for at least three (3) years, one of which was an active participant at the Senior level (grade 10-12) and who is a graduating senior, whether from Stoneham High School, a parochial private or vocational school, and who is going on to any type of higher education. The Girl Scout Recognition Award Committee will present a $250 award to a student upon proof of registration at an institution of higher learning (i.e. college, technical or vocational school, etc.) Applications will be considered anonymously.

Application to NSCC's Presidential Scholarship Program for $1,000 is open to all graduating high school seniors who have been accepted to NSCC. MASSACHUSETTS ARBORISTS ASSOCIATION is an active and involved trade association that serves the commercial arboriculture industry. There are four MAA $2,500 scholarships available. Applicant must be an incoming student enrolling in the four-year Urban Forestry program at U Mass, or in the two-year Arboriculture and Park Management program at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. (Preference will be given to a Mass resident who plans to work in a Massachusetts commercial tree care industry and on financial need.) 482009_93313_0.pngMASSACHUSETTS ASSOCIATION OF CAMPGROUND OWNERS - The $1,000 MACO scholarship is available to any Massachusetts high school senior who is studying for a career in the following areas: Outdoor Recreation, Hospitality Management, and Travel & Tourism. Student must be maintaining a GPA of no less than 2.5. This is not based on financial need.Deadline for this scholarship has passed.

THE GRIFFIN MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY – Each year the museum conducts the Juried Show entitled Eyes of the Future, for high school seniors. Once again this year, the museum will hold an exhibition for seniors in the Stoneham area (see list on application) as part of its 15th Juried Exhibition Show. In addition one finalist will also be awarded the Joan Johnson Scholarship for $1,000. Students are required to submit one photo that best represents their work. WATSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/TITLE 1 - This award, established in 1989 to honor the memory of Robert Watson, Title I director for the Lynn Public Schools, will provide $1,500 scholarships for one or more graduating seniors who have been accepted into a post-secondary undergraduate program. The eligibility requirements for this scholarship are demonstrated need and that the applicant participated in a Title I funded Targeted Assistance or School wide program for at least one academic year, at any grade level. The applicant’s participation could have taken place in either a public or non-public school, or as part of a program administered in a local/state-operated facility for neglected or delinquent children. The “Future Educators Scholarship” is a newly-instituted $1,000 award that is given annually in June~to a deserving Massachusetts high school senior who is will be attending college in pursuit of a career in education. The scholarship originated as a way to honor the mission of the National Coalition for Educational and Cultural Programs, which began as an organization focused on early childhood education. Students interested in this scholarship must be focused on a career within the education field (at any level) and should be involved in some form of community service.
